Greg Felich, Tennis Professional

The summer of 2005 was Greg's 26th summer running the tennis program at Dollar Point. Greg Gelich moved to Lake Tahoe with his family from the Bay Area in 1967 when he was 9 years old. He and his family were quickly entrenched in the "Tahoe Lifestyle" ski racing in the winter and racing sailboats in the summer. While at North Tahoe High School, Greg was on both the ski and tennis teams where he helped lead the Lakers to a state championship in skiing and a pioneer league championship in tennis. Greg also won the pioneer league individual championships in single and doubles (paired with Dollar Point homeowner John Altrocchi's son, Paul) both his junior and senior years.

In 1976, Greg went on to play college tennis at California State University Chico. During the summer of 1979, he attended the Vic Braden Tennis Academy and earned his USTA instructor certification. The following summer Greg took the position as tennis pro at Dollar Point when his predecessor, Dean Headley (Donner Point homeowner), took another tennis pro position at Rocky Ridge.

In 1983, he moved to southern California after receiving a tennis pro job at the Monterey Country Club in Palm Desert. The next year Greg was given the opportunity to advance as the head pro at Monterey's sister club, The Lakes Country Club. With the two seasons coinciding perfectly, he was set with a great lifestyle, Palm Springs in the winter and Lake Tahoe in the summer!

In 1985 Greg married his wife Dee Dee and left The Lakes Country Club to take the Head Tennis Pro position at the Grand Champions Resort. Over the next 15 years at Grand Champions, the professional tournament grew to become one of the sixth largest combined (men and women) tournaments in the world. In 1988, the tournament took on a new sponsor and became The Newsweek Champions Cup.

Meanwhile in Lake Tahoe, Greg started Tahoe Tennis in 1089 and took over the tennis operations at Chinquapin along with his duties at Dollar Point. Five years later, Greg received the highest certification available to tennis professional when he was rated a Professional by the USPTR (United States Professional Tennis Registry).

Greg enjoyed a great run at the Grand Champions Resort, but by 2000, the tournament had outgrown the facilities at the Hyatt and was moved to it's new home, The Indian Wells Tennis Garden. At that time, Greg took a new position, the Tennis Pro job at Rancho La Quinta.

Dee Dee and Greg live in La Quinta with their two boy's Donald (15) and Jack (11). The boys love tennis, soccer and the outdoors. You can find the Felich family beginning around June 15, on the tennis courts at Dollar Point or out on the Lake sailing their Laser Pico or their new Hobie Miracle 20!
