Firewise Committee Charter:  Development and implementation of Dollar Point Firewise USA plan. Annual Firewise USA certification. Community leadership, education and promotion of fire safety at Dollar Point.

2026 Goals:

  • Collect 300+ yards of combustible fuel during 3 Green Waste Dumpster Days.
  • Develop a 3 Year Action Plan to be submitted with Firewise Certification Renewal in October 2026.
  • Communicate improvements that make homes and yards more “fire wise” (i.e., proper storage of firewood, defensible space guidelines/inspection resources, home hardening tips, fireplace and chimney inspections, regularly change batteries in smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors, encourage Knox Box access for NTFPD for all DPA homes with fire suppression sprinkler system).
  • Coordinate with Chinquapin and nearby communities on mutual Firewise efforts.
  • Educate DPA homeowners through the Firewise Newsletter and Speakers.
  • Encourage DPA homeowners to “Adopt a Fire Hydrant” during the winter to keep snow clear so NTFPD has easy access.
  • Identify non-compliant properties, including uninhabitable properties in severe disrepair, and develop and implement a process for contacting DPA homeowners.
